William D. Roe President’s Leadership Class Scholarship

The William D. Roe President’s Leadership Class Scholarship has been established at the University of Oklahoma to recognize the leadership activities of outstanding graduating high school students from the greater Houston area. Every dollar awarded by the scholarship will be matched by the OU Alumni Association Tuition Matching Program, through tuition and fee waivers, up to $2,500 per student. The scholarship amount will vary each year depending on the number of Houston area students receiving the scholarship award, and the earnings from the endowment.
For the 2013 fall semester, three students were selected to receive a $500 scholarship award plus a matching $500 in tuition waivers from the OU Alumni Association Tuition Matching Program.
Bill Roe is a long time Houston resident, graduate of OU, and was a member of the second prestigious OU President’s Leadership Class (PLC) of 1962. The financial assistance afforded by the PLC allowed him to study and graduate from OU, as well as meet his wife Peggy and many other lifelong friends. Bill’s family and friends, upon learning of his diagnosis of pancreatic cancer, established this endowed scholarship as a way to honor Bill and help others whose lives might be changed by attending OU. Bill has been a longtime member of the OU Club of Houston, and served as president of the club in 1997. He also served as scholarship chairman for many years, building and shaping the Club’s successful scholarship program as it exists today.
Selection for the William D. Roe President's Leadership Class Scholarship is based on acceptance into PLC program, leadership, volunteer activities, honors/awards and a written statement regarding leadership.
Students from the Houston area accepted into PLC, will automatically receive the William D. Roe President’s Leadership Class Scholarship. To apply for PLC can do so by following OU’s online scholarship process on the OU Web site, which coincides with the admission application. The deadline to apply for scholarships is February 1 during the spring semester of students’ senior year of high school.
